April 11, 2015 at Environmental Learning Center, Muscatine

CVIDS members gathered for a noon potluck at the Muscatine Environmental Learning Center. Forty-six members and two guests were present for programs and the business meeting. The first presentation included active audience participation in learning how to prevent injuries while gardening. Feryl York from Iowa City Physical Therapy gave the lively and engaging presentation. Our second speaker was CVIDS member Doug Jones with the Iowa Freedom Trail at the State Historical Society of Iowa. He gave a presentation on the last trip John Brown made through Iowa with the Underground Railroad. Doug’s presentation highlighted the challenges faced and the dedication exhibited by those working to help free slaves. CVIDS members commented on different Iowa structures and towns involved in this movement.
